Last weekend I attended the first Harvard Career Advancement and Leadership Skills for Women in Healthcare conference. It was without a doubt a rousing success. I have never before been in the company of so many dynamic, intelligent, caring and forward thinking individuals. Each speaker was unique and contributed insights that I had not been exposed to before. The topics were a mixture of business, ethical, practical and management skills required to become a good leader. Topics included, negotiation, quality, safety and value, strategic imperatives, planning and goal setting, how to drive important changes, and tapping in to the power of social media. We learned about building a diverse and successful workforce, discrimination in the work place and weekend long hackathons hosted by John Hopkins’ innovation team.
